Expect the unexpected, savour the strange and revel in the ridiculous. Amusement for the whole family to enjoy – come along and see the streets come to life from noon with entertainment for everyone including live music, circus performances, dance and acrobatics.

Headline – “Garba”

The Garba is an impressive large scale dance performed as part of the Navratri Festival and originates from the state of Gujarat in India. More than 150 people will be wearing traditional clothes and dancing to traditional Garba music. Derby Market Place will be dressed and lit with lanterns hanging from a specially designed canopy. This impressive performance will leave you with a lasting impression, you can even join in the steps!

Cie Artonik – “Colour of Time”

In a rainbow eruption of powder and dance, “The Colour of Time” brings a stunning reinvention of the traditional Holi festival celebrated in India. Each year, people throw gulal powder in the air showing great joy and mirth, celebrating unity, acceptance of diversity through these colourful embraces, as these Free Hugs offered to strangers. While its origins draw from Indian culture, this reinterpretation is resolutely contemporary and very far from Bollywood. In a massive dance-theatre parade, dancers and musicians move in a choreographed parade towards a huge finale. Joining in, the audience are invited into a riotous explosion of colour and joy, painting the sky with Gulal (coloured corn flour).

Circus Geeks – “Project_Vee”

The show combines elements of classic street performance with unusual traditional circus inspired by a legendary Soviet circus act. Roulette wheel meets juggling: danger, skill and awe-inspiring moments. Project_Vee takes juggling to a different dimension. Literally

Candoco – “You and I know”

Choreographed by Arlene Phillips and danced with passion and sensitivity to a collection of pop songs.

Joli Vyann – “Lance Moi En L’air”

Thrilling acrobatic skills meet athletic and graceful dance. Blurring the boundaries of dance, theatre and circus, Joli Vyann take you on an imaginative journey, telling stories that excite, enchant and electrify.

Commissioned by Without Walls, Bournemouth Arts by the  Sea and Dance Village, presented as Joli Vyann and L’Eolienne.

Kuljit Bhamra – Chutney

Kuljit Bhamra’s ‘Chutney in the Street’ is an enchanting story told through a unique blend of songs, dance and audience participation all cooked up in a spicy mix of soca guitars and percussion. “Dance to the Chutney music otherwise the Princess won’t fall in love!”

New Art Club – “Campervan of Love”

Through a series of songs, dances and hilarious set pieces the performers will explore the physical possibilities of the specially-adapted VW Campervan. They swing, climb and fall whilst engaging the audience in a story that challenges our notion of love.

Corey Baker Dance – “Phonebox”

Bringing to life this nostalgic British icon with thrilling dance and a wacky digital sound-score. You’ll be captivated as you watch impressive acrobatic and physical moves in, on and around a vintage red telephone box. This show promises to entertain and exhilarate in equal measure.

Circus Katoen – “Ex Aequó”

A wonderful performance from two young circus artists who surprise and move you with their impressive acrobatics. In a playful and physical way they explore the area where they are going to live together for the first time and won’t rest until everything has found its place.

Glasshouse – “Us”

A surreal and comic dance theatre performance. ‘Us’ is a re-telling of the classic ‘boy-meets-girl’. This comic dance performance reveals the trials and tribulations of young love. Will they make it work? The audience help them decide; should they stick it out or go their separate ways?

Highly Sprung – “Roots”

Set on a seven-metre-high tree-like structure, “Roots” is a highly energetic and interactive performance. Watch the performers move effortlessly in and around the tree structure using bungee aerial movement and dance. Creating an intriguing, entertaining and visually stunning experience for all the family.

Maison Foo – “Testing”

Join Maison Foo for an unfinished and unpolished test drive performance of early ideas for their latest show in the making Parkour Parents. A great chance for you to see work still in progress and help shape a future piece of street theatre.

Human Hood – “Nomadis”

Two nomads meet with instant recognition. Falling into the force of a vortex that brings them here, shaping the Now. Merging bodies in curves and falling into the pulse of the encounter. An animalistic crossing where instinct is the only thing left.

Smoking Apples – “Arbor” – Festé commission

Part Man. Part Tree. 18 feet tall. Meet Arbor. Created by award-winning puppetry and theatre company Smoking Apples, Arbor will stride around the streets, vanishing between trees and emerging with his cart full of tree saplings. Encouraging the people of Derby to plant and nurture their own trees, Arbor will give out saplings to take home, leaving a legacy that will last throughout the years.

Matt Marks – “Wheeze”

Wheeze is an organ like you’ve never seen before. It can be played, it may play itself and it will invite anyone to play it/with it. Playing it will, at times, require physical effort – lungs will be the organs that provide the breath that provides the vitality for the muscles to activate the breath of the organ. For Wheeze is also a vital organ.

Leicester Mela – “Rangoli”

A Rangoli pattern is a form of traditional Indian art that symbolises joy and happiness. It is full of symmetrical, colourful and vibrant designs created at the entrance and courtyard floors of people’s homes to celebrate Diwali.
