Cultural calendar highlight returns for a fifth year

One of the highlights of Derby’s cultural calendar returns for a fifth year, on Fri 23 & Sat 24 Sep.

Derby Festé is now firmly established and recognised as a high quality, FREE, live performance event in the heart of the city that people of all ages can enjoy and immerse themselves in. Attended by not only local residents, from Derby and surrounding towns and villages, but also visitors to the city, from all over the UK, the main appeal of the event, and what has attracted thousands of people to the city in previous years, is the pure quality of the entertainment and spectacle on offer.

Derby Festé is organised by QUAD, Déda and Derby LIVE. This cultural event is not only talked about, written about and  enthused about on a local level but has been highlighted as a quality event to attend in the national media too. Derby Festé 2011 will bring a variety of international and local artists together and the exciting festival programme for this year produced, and presented by Walk the Plank, will include the return of Sarruga, who thrilled audiences in 2007 and 2008, with another of their jaw-dropping acts. Sarruga will present Peixos, which will see the city centre
transformed into a spectacular seabed where giant illuminated fish and creatures from the deep represent the inhabitants of the sea as they move through the streets of Derby. Allow yourself to be lured into the experience by vivid colours and special effects, as music, sound and light immerse you in the beautiful ocean. Join the parade towards a fantastic finale at Cathedral Green.

Keith Jeffrey (Director, QUAD) said:
“Festé is an established part of the calendar and is part of what makes Derby different. This year’s line up looks to be as exciting as ever and QUAD is delighted to be involved.”

Peter Ireson (Director, Derby LIVE) said:
“Festé is now an established part of Derby's cultural calendar and is a great opportunity for the city to come together to celebrate and experience fantastic art in the great outdoors. Festé contributes towards the city's growing national reputation for its cultural provision and it also acts as an audience development tool for the exciting programme happening at venues in Derby throughout the rest of the year.”

Stephen Munn (Director, Déda) said:
“Festé is a fantastic event that demonstrates what a great city Derby is. Festé 2011 will have the usual mix of international and local artists presenting an exciting programme that would be the envy of any city in the world. Déda is proud to be a partner in this unique event.”

So, as a post-summer (free!) treat why not come and celebrate in the city and be a part of Derby Festé 2011 on Fri 23 & Sat 24 Sep. More details of the event to be announced soon.
