More fabulous acts revealed
The organisers of Derby Festé 2011 are delighted to announce a whole host of additional acts who will perform and entertain thousands of people at Derby’s ultimate street festival, in addition to the eagerly anticipated return of stunning street arts company, Sarruga.
As previously announced, Sarruga will present Peixos, which will see the city centre transformed into a spectacular seabed where giant illuminated fish and creatures from the deep will move through the streets.
As well as producing Derby Festé internationally renowned outdoor arts specialists, Walk the Plank, will present, on the Friday, a magical Fire Garden. In this beautiful glowing garden, expect fire-based installations, live performances, soundscapes and roaming musicians, creating a luminous landscape, in an event that has been specially designed to appear on Bass’ Rec.
As part of the garden, audiences can experience a brand new commission by Déda, in collaboration with skateboarding experts, Hooked Extreme, and make their own music at the Giant Chimes by City Arts, and see performance by fire experts, Flame Oz.
French acrobatic theatre geniuses, Les Trois Points de Suspension; and a Festé Salsa Party, presented by Absolute Salsa and Déda, are also lined up to entertain, enthrall and amuse.
Derby Festé will light up the streets of Derby and we look forward to welcoming a whole wealth of multi-talented artists and companies from overseas, across the UK and regionally. The list of confirmed acts to date includes a collection of world class street theatre including Maison Foo, Derby Jazz and The Music Hothouse, Artizani, with their Lobster á la Cart; Grand Theatre of Lemmings, which will see wacky ostriches with riders on their back running amok through the city; Jelly Rollers ‘Dragon’, a beautiful dragon who plays music and flaps its wings and The Trolls Kitchen, where young audiences had better beware and be ready to help cook up a revolting banquet for a hungry
troll who will be on the loose in Derby during the festival weekend!
Festé performances will take place in and around the Market Place, Bass’ Rec, Osnabruck Square, Cathedral Green, Silk Mill Museum, Westfield, Iron Gate, Cornmarket, Sadler Gate, as well as in front of the Cathedral and St Peters Street. Activities and performances will also take place at Déda and QUAD will be offering digital fun and family experiences throughout the weekend. Whichever performance space you find yourself in, during this jam-packed weekend, rest assured that you are guaranteed to be wowed by the very best talent on the UK, national and international street arts scene today.
